Team Leader Joel Reijn My name is Joel. I study Social Work at the HAN, now in the 3rd year. In my internship at the Salvation Army I learn a lot about counseling people and my own role in this. I enjoy reading a book in peace and quiet. Besides that I love music, I'm busy learning guitar and piano. I love to talk about meaningful themes and always try to learn from the other person. I am also student leader at StudentLife in Nijmegen. Our dream is that every student in Nijmegen and eventually the Netherlands gets a chance to know Jesus and to become a lifelong disciple of Him. Most important for me is living out my faith in Jesus Christ in my daily life.
Team Leader Yohan Opatha My name is Yohan. I`m 20 yrs old. I study Mechanical Engineering at Swinburne University of Technology, Malaysia, now at 3rd yr. My hobbies are mostly travelling with my parents and watching movies. I love listening to Christian music where it encourages and uplifts me in worship and praise. I also serve in my church in the teens ministry as a leader in the production team involving the technical aspect. My dream goal is to become an aircraft engineer and to get involved in the aviation industry.
Team Leader Jehan Opatha I am Jehan and I come from Sri Lanka. I am currently studying Masters in Automotive Systems at HAN University of Applied Sciences in Arnhem. I came to Netherlands during the pandemic when it was at its peak in Netherlands and I hardly could go outside. For the first time in my life I felt sudden depression and loneliness since I was in a foreign country and the fact that I was stuck inside my apartment and was taking university lessons fully online. It was during my difficult time when I was suddenly visited by Jan Bakker who is an iconic figure of Alpha and I was introduced to Alpha by him. I grew up in a Christian family with Christian values. But, my life was mainly focused on my education, career, friends…and I was never satisfied with what I had achieved in life and I always kept on searching my purpose. Once I Joined Alpha, I was able to find all the answers to my life. I was able to find my true purpose and it was ‘living unto God’. Alpha gave me the opportunity to share my thoughts and clarify my doubts with each other as a family and I felt less alone in things. It was a relaxed, fun atmosphere and mainly it gave me an opportunity to restore my faith in Christ. Joining Alpha was the biggest life changer for me and it was the best gift I have received.
Team facilitator Cor van Dis I’am Cor – from spring 2019 till autumn 2021 I was a mentor for IFES International in Arnhem and Nijmegen conducting two Alpha courses. Why support this English Alpha for students? It’s the best known international course on what Christianity is all about, to exchange ideas about life questions safely, and to experience cross culture friendship. Deepest motivation: God found me in his Word to find Jesus my wonderful Savior. He is so amazing and awesome!
